Shipbuilding Engineering Services
Shipbuilding Engineering Services
Offering complete engineering design services for the Marine and Shipbuilding industry. By providing 3D models of a wide range of marine vessels, ECM can assist any shipbuilding manufacturer with the construction of the vessel from the infrastructure to the advanced mechanical systems as well as power and energy systems.
ECM has scanned complete hulls, measured deck features, and performed turbine shaft alignments. We have many years of experience measuring high-output impellers and other propulsion components. Our customers vary from yacht designers to major shipbuilders as well as the US Navy and Coast Guard. Recently, we laser scanned and modeled a large four-bladed propeller for reverse engineering purposes. We have also measured hull plugs, rudders, and numerous rigging components for local yacht manufacturers.
Key Services Include:
- Shaft Alignment
- Propeller Profiling
- Hull Analysis & Profiling
- As-Built Modeling
- Torpedo Tube Alignment
- Vertical Launch Tube Profiling
- Sonar Array Analysis
Better Boat Building Starts with Pre-Planning and Precision Metrology
With ECM metrologists able to come on-site to capture the hull plug shape and measure the distance between end points and mast head, the management of these challenges became easier, with less materials needed.
ECM Assists NEU Students with Senior Project using Laser Scanning Technology
The objective of the project was to design an unmanned surface vehicle that was able to travel through the oceanic surf zone while carrying instrumentation for sonar measurements.
Remaking a Classic Propeller in Quick Turn Time
Atlantic Trawlers needed an accurate and fast method of measuring the Harmony propeller and generating a representative CAD model of the part. This process is called reverse engineering and is a specialty of ECM.
